I just stayed up until 6 a.m last night to reread Howl's moving castle in a day ( and then woke up at 16 p.m today). I first read the book 5 or 6 years ago so I forgot tons of details and many important plot points. I also read the translated version first so this rereading was actually my first time to read the English one.

Howl's moving castle was the first book written by Jones that I read. Since then, I have read 11 more of her books because of how delightful her writing was. When I first read Howl's moving castle, my perception was heavily influenced by Miyazaki's anime of the same name. I loved the anime (still do now) so I was hoping to find that movie inside the book. However, in my second read, I think I had a clearer view of the book because I did not keep comparing it to the anime like I used to do.

Howl's moving castle is whimsical, funny and imaginative. The characters are a delight to read because they feel incredibly relatable and Jones wrote them with such humour and cleverness. The result is that Howl's moving castle is one of those books that you can read in one seating (I did that twice!) but can still go back later and reread it because it doesn't not stop delighting.

Jones was one of the best children's author that I have read and I will probably look into more books written by her when I have the time.
