For the last few months, I have not been able to do much reading or writing and basically focused entirely on paging through meaningless stuffs I don't even care about on facebook, gaming and feeling sleepy most of the time. I literally could not read a book for more than 15 minutes without losing focus and trying hard to continue reading. "Crazy Rich Asians" was my attempt to read something fun and light to make me want to read again because I started to think that the reason I read so little was because the books I read recently were too long and dense.

And it did keep me absorbed enough for me to read the book quickly (I read it in four days). The book created an escapist fantasy about the wealthy (it reminded me about a part in Vanity Fair in which the narrator mockingly said that even while being cheated of their money and becoming poorer, people still found satisfaction in seeing Becky's living expensively - I am too lazy to get the book out and find the quote). I did not laugh a lot while I was reading the book but it was fun a book.

However, the writing was awful. I cringed at many of the sentences in the book. The two main protagonists were flat. I hate how whenever authors want to make their characters look intelligent, capable and likeable people, they make their characters graduate from top universities as if certificates round out characters. Astrid was supposed to be the interesting one but she was subjected to a lot of telling and not a lot of showing.

I hope my reading appetite will get better after this book.
